Searching information on drug research projects

This database contains information gathered in the course of the ERANID project during 2013 and 2014. Principally, it contains details of research projects on illicit drugs carried out since 2010 within the six ERANID countries and funded by the European Committee: Belgium; France; Italy; Portugal; The Netherlands; and the United Kingdom. However, this database will not capture all illicit drugs research carried out within a country.

Objectives (native)
Décrire les Communautés Thérapeutiques, leur public, leurs déterminants, leur impact et leur insertion en France au moment de leur ouverture
Initial identified needs
In 2006 the French Ministry of Health and the Mission for the fight against drugs and drug addiction decided to launch Therapeutic Community programmes in order to widen the therapeutic programmes existing for drug users. At that time, the authorities decided to launch simultaneously an evaluation of this new programme in order to determinate whether or not it was relevant to adopt it for good.

Area(s) of research
Prevalence, incidence and patterns of drug use
Objectives
Survey on health and health behaviours (including psychoactive substance use) and their determinants. Objectives are thus to better know the population on the given thematic, to monitor trends (collection every 4 years since 1994 in France), to allow international comparisons (43 participating nations in 2010), to provide evidence for prevention actions (partnership with national education, INPES).

Objectives (native)
Initial identified needs
The HBSC survey is an international study focused on the Western countries. The participation of France in the network and in the production of international data is thus very important. In addition, France is the only country collecting representative data on school children from "collège", among which psychoactive substance use (including illicit drugs)
Initial identified needs (native)

Treatment responses
Objectives
To describe the patterns of use of the OSM in 2006 and 2007 (levels of consumption, medicinal combination). To assess, especially through the durations of treatment, the intentionality (whether therapeutic or not) behind the use. To estimate the prevalences of abuses or misuses, more particularly among people taking HDB.

Objectives (native)
- to describe the patterns of use of the OSM in 2006 and 2007 (levels of consumption, medicinal combination). - to assess, especially through the durations of treatment, the intentionality (whether therapeutic or not) behind the use. - to estimate the prevalences of abuses or misuses, more particularly among people taking HDB.
Initial identified needs
In 2007, approximately 120 000 people have undergone treatment based on Opiate Substitution Medicine (OSM), which were predominantly (80% of cases) High Dosage Buprenorphine (HDB), far beyond methadone (this HDB prevalence is specific to France). If the impact of these OSM appears clearly very positive approximately 15 years after their marketing authorisation, some cases of misuse have also been reported, making the follow-up of their prescription all the more necessary. In this context, from the beginning of the 2000s, the French National health insurance fund (CNAMTS) and the OFDT have been cooperating to organise the study OSM related refund. This analysis focuses on a particularly interesting period which one corresponds to the extension of the range of the OSM (in relation the marketing of generic HDB medicines) and to the strengthening of the OSM misuse control by the National Health Insurance.

Initial identified needs
Most of the knowledge produced regarding drugs and drug users comes from users in treatment or convicted whereas not all the drug users follow a treatment or are convicted. Knowing more about these hidden populations of drug users helps to track down new trends in drug consumption and to understand what are the strength and difficulties of the users who succeed in avoiding treatment settings and judicial system.
